Shrinkage
I don't know if I should even be worried about this problem yet, but I am for some reason. I'm not sure really what my "hair type" is but I think it's a mix of 4a/4b and the shrinkage is outta control. It's really hard to be patient with this whole growing out process, because it kinda looks like my hair isn't growing AT ALL when I know it is. I would say that my hair looks about 75% shorter than it really is and I am clueless as to how I can get the curls to stretch a little. I am tempted to try Miss Jessie's products but my budget tells me otherwise; I am trying like mad to not become a product junkie...and most of the products that I try have to be $5 or less. It makes absolutely no sense to go natural only to spend huge amounts of money trying every product under the sun, but this shrinkage issue is getting on my nerves and I am *this close* to shelling out some cash to see if I can find something that works. Anyone with a 3-4 inch TWA got any suggestions? I am about to get in the kitchen and start mixing stuff of my own at this point.

Don't try the Miss Jessie's, especially if you are 4a 4b it doesn't do anything for shrinkage. My 4a/4b super curly hair does not respond to it, I still have a 85% full jar under my sink and gave my mom the curly meringue, her hair is longer than mine and she is natural too. I don't wear my hair out anymore because of all the shrinkage I get, stretched out it is five inches but now that it is hot my hair shrivels up so much and it dries out. Your best bet is to try whipping a little shea butter and some oil and doing some protective styles that will definitely help keep you out of your hair and help in hair growth. Two strand twists are great, wear them for a while and then untwist and wear a twist out, that is a great way to show off your lenght. I mix alot some of my own stuff and my favorite is my shea butter mixtures that I also use in both my natural daughters hair. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I live in Memphis also.
ReplyDeleteYay for Memphians!! I can't wait to come home again and get my hands on some D'bo's seasoned wings! :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I am very skeptical of the Miss Jessie's line because I have heard so many mixed reviews on it. The price alone is enough to deter me, but I *was* thinking of buying a few items during their BOGO sale this November :)
Your suggestion to make a shea mixture is right on time..I found a few recipes for shealoe that I want to try out on my next set of twist. This time I will make them smaller so I can wear them out for a while! Where do you buy your shea? I'm looking for a trustworthy vendor..
the only thing your hair texture will accept in the miss jessies line is their buttercreame and rapid repair conditioner. The buttercreame will help with the shrinkage. My hair also suffers from extreme shrinkage,a nd the buttercreame helped me alot!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading more about Miss Jessies, I have concluded that their Curly Pudding is better for looser curl patterns. I am going to order their buttercreame and the rapid repair in November during their yearly BOGO sale.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info! Come back and visit the blog more often...I am doing this for the input/benefit of other type 4 curlies :)
